baptism

after talking about my 10 yrs younger cousin, wanna talk abt another 2 10yrs younger "friend" @ my church.
i was their junior high fellowship sponsor few years ago. last night one of them told me that they are going to baptise in the coming thanksgiving!!! wooo.. so thankful to God.. i was wondering if they know what "baptism" means.. but look back to myself.. 10 yrs ago.. i was still in hk.. n i wanna get baptised after i attend this church for 2 yrs! it's not a public shower, but it's a time to tell people that i m a CHRISTIAN!

trade off

last night i knew that my cousin bought a guitar and had a conflict w/ his parents n he's kinda gonna give up high school cert (the exam to university). looking back on myself. I've been saying that i'll learn guitar for 2 yrs yet i haven't done so bcoz i m too busy w/ school n church. it's just so hilarious that my cousin will give up his studies for guitar BUT i m giving up my guitar for the sake of studies! is this generation gap? 10 yrs could make such a difference? or it's just maturity?

Letter from India

I am so happy to receive a letter from india today!!!
da... not from my dear brother who was quarantined there by hsbc for a month.
but from my world vision sponsored child.
i've finally written her a letter after sponsoring her for 1+ years.
sent her some stickers and a bookmark.
n stupid me asked her what skipping is.
coz i never play that!
u know how we (the "rich" world) are spoiled that we only "online" ...
village people like her play skipping!
yet i dunno how to describe here. think it's kinda like jumping w/ a rope... n she can shoot a ball or sth to a goal.
hope i can visit her sometime in the future when i go to india...
may this child become a precious child in HIS eyes.
thanks to my friend who has transferred this kid to me so that i can contact her.

Leo!!

Yes! I've finally met my idol whom i loved for 10+ years.
I wasn't as excited as I thought. not as excited as i saw pong pong 2 months ago.
Probably I've managed to meet *star*.
Leo is much much more popular than pong pong and his assistants don't let us to take pics w/ him.
I got pulled away while my cousin was taking a pic for me n him.
so i can't change my wallpaper la...
but he signed me a poster and i gotta talk to him!

mandy: can you write my name on the poster?
leo: ho ah. what's your name?
mandy: mandy
mandy: will you sing your new song in the concert?
leo: which one?
mandy: tin choi yue bak chi
leo: hmmm no la.. not this time, maybe next time.

he's darker than i thought. maybe due to the sun in australia?
he also looked so tired... probably jet lagging?
i hope he'll continue to move on in his music.

u know what my mom said when i got home?
she asked me: did u ask abt his health? is his heart alright?
i didn't ah.. totally forgotten. if i get to meet leo again, i'll tell him that my mom "mun hau nei"...

this is the best pic taken by my cousin

yah!! look at my poster!!!

working late at ubc

u know what.. this is the first time i drive to school at 1am.
yes. to stop one reaction. n i m gonna stay till 5:30 to stop another one then go home n zzz.
i was, n probably my parents n my friends too, pretty worry abt my safety as it's very late at night n quiet @ ubc campus.
plus no one around for help if u get into danger.
but... God is so nice. He said He'll protect me.
n He did it!!! when i got back to the lab, Josh is still here working on his NSERC application (some scholarship stuff). n he said he's gonna stay till i leave at 5:30!!
thank God that i don't need to be alone in a quiet stinky lab... =D

i love you lord.. n i lift my voice to worship u...
oh my soul rejoice....
take joy my king, in what you hear...
may it be a sweet sweet sound in your ear....

song

suddenly, remember i did a personal and private prayer w/ God in the camp. the lyrics just pop up in my head again after the dj on the radio said sth abt the sunset:

Lord you are more precious than silver
Lord you are more costly than gold
Lord you are more beautiful than diamond
and nothing i desire compares with you

thank you father again, for your abundent blessings and provisions.

luke camp

wow.. back from white rock.
very tired. played volleyball. so dumb. bruises! like biten by a dog.... no more for me.
i like watching then playing... it's always more fun to watch how people team work nicely than having me screwing up the game.
but the camp was great.. after all the months of preparations.. it's finally over!!!
i hope everyone who's there has experienced God...
but god is really great. sent jeanie n gave us a sermon which covers all the point which we didn't cover.
which is: never see yourself better than others BECAUSE God not only makes u special, but also others.
plus, have broaded mind to accept people who's weaker than u.
n jeanie is considerate enough to prepare notes in english so that steven can read.

if u know.. i always missed the sunrise.
n sunset? it's so hard to catch it too coz the clouds always cover it.
always dreaming to watch sunset w/ my favourite lover coz it'll be so romantique...
instead, my dearest Jesus has sent me a number of friends to watch it WITH me n capture it FOR me....
we barely saw the sun as it was "sandwiched" between the layer of clouds n the pacific ocean.

u can c how busy my friends are... n the wind is strong!

I just wanna say, "Bak Bak bye bye"

First PhD of the Gates'

wooo!! i m very happy to c vince's defended his thesis successfully. he did a great job. he's the first one in our lab who graduate! i m really happy for him.. n kinda miss the time when he was around a lot in the lab.. sitting beside me... teasing me... pretending shooting guns at me w/ a heatgun... lifting all the heavy water bottle for me. dunno how i will be next year...

we've celebrated w/ him w/ champagne n i got some photos for him:

TA issue

in the middle of week, my boss has offered our student to take up the extra TA and he'll pay her the air fare for 2 conferences. which means, his account can stop bleeding for $12K for this year. (TA job gives 6K + department top-up 6K).
if the department is going to open an operational fund account for each deficit prof, y can't keep taking the RA $$ from there?
well.. i m not an accountant nor mathematician. but i think u can tell the difference then...
my friend doesn't know whether she should take it or not.
if she's not, seems like she's causing a trouble n she's afraid of a bad reference letter in the future.
if she's taking it, i think not just her, but the whole group is affected as we r gonna share some group jobs for her.
she just doesn't understand y the affected portion is the students. but not the profs?
finally, it's solved. my boss can pay her RA through that opeartional fund account n so she can keep on taking 2 TA units. no more.
